Sierra Nevada Mountain Peaks

There are more than 120 mountains peaks in the Sierra Nevada that are over 13,000 feet in elevation.

The highest peak in the lower 48 states is located in the Southern Sierra Nevada -- it is Mt. Whitney at 14,494 feet.

The vast majority of the highest peaks are located in clusters in the southern part of the Sierra Nevada range, south of Yosemite National Park.  In fact, only three peaks over 13,000 feet occur in the range north of Yosemite.  Most of the highest peaks are found near Mt. Whitney or in the area around North Palisade in Kings Canyon National Park.

The peaks over 14,000 feet are pictured in this exhibit.

A table with all the mountain peaks higher than 13,000 feet is also presented.
