The Gold Country

The California Gold Country is located on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada. This foothills region is also known as the Mother Lode or Gold Rush Country. It is about 250 miles in length, 40 miles wide, and is located in eleven counties. It was here that the California Gold Rush occurred in the mid-19th century.
